How I was being raised in the Hearing family?

Everyone would think how and where I was raised in the Hearing family.

Let me share my story to yours.

I was born Deaf since baby. None of my both parents could aware about my condition. Either my relatives too. So I was well taken care by my grandparents until there was an incident in a room where I was accidentally locked up in the room door. My ee ee (aunt) was afraid and anxiety to get me out from room. Luckily, she went to our house side to get a stick through netting window to shout out and show/ wave towards me and I looked at her to tell me what to do. So I opened the door finally. From on that very moment, my ee ee has noticed something is wrong with me. So she has spoken to my mom. My mom brought me to see a doctor and explained to her that I was Deaf. I was around 2-3 years old. Then she helped my mom to find me a pre-school. My mom could figure out about me.

My mom found out It was hard to accept me as a Deaf child. None of any parents would want that, right?

In the school where I enrolled to early pre-school at Federation School for the Deaf, known as FSD in Penang by the age of 5 in 1989. I would be given an oralism class in every day before my other classes would began. During the oralism class, I would practiced to speak with my hearing aids and looked at the mirror with a teacher. This oralism defines where a theory would be done through lipreading, training in speech production and training of residual hearing. It was not that easy process to go through.

How a Deaf person know what the Hearing person to say?

This picture shows that how this method lip-reading works out for a Deaf person with a Hearing person.

1. I can't hear. Please do not cover your mouth with hand/ mask.

(A transparent mask would be a better one to enable to read lip-reading)

2. I can't hear you if you mumble fast.

3. Face me.

4. Speak one at a time slowly.

5. A Deaf person can catch up the
movement of lip-reading using eyes.

Not at all Deaf persons can do that. Only gifted persons can have this skill. Understanding this method can be tired and eyesore to the Deaf person.

How I picked up this lip-reading method?

As I have said in the much earlier below. I spoke very good and clear for not needing to turn back to see the Hearing person to talk to me. It was like how two Hearing persons talk to each other by doing many things at the same time. There is no necessary by looking at the person to talk to you. I hope you get what I mean.

Okay, when my speaking and hearing has became little worse and I could not pick up in front when the Hearing person to say to me at the back. So I was much struggled back then how to solve this problem. So one day I was starred at the Hearing persons to talk in desperately. And there I was noticing at their conversations to pay attention seriously. This is how I have picked up some words which I knew what they talked all about. I tested and I asked them whether it corrects or not. It comes out that I was corrected! From that moment, I knew I should use this method in another option all the way.

I would speak to my family and everyone who is hearing. Only my mom learnt sign language simple as ABCs. In school, I would use sign language to communicate with Deaf friends and teachers. But I would sometimes use Total Communication, known as TC with my teachers. Total communication is where a person would sign and speak at the same time.

What does Total Communication look like?

You may see it in the picture drawing above explaining that two persons would talk to each other but one of them is speaking and signing at the same time, the other person would look and listen.

It is how this tool of Total Communication works.

But I am much luckier as I have fewer Deaf friends who are in the same condition as me who are able to speak too. I spoke very clear and good back then.

I was treated good and fair by my family, cousins and relatives. I was not that much different from them. Everything was normal. I would played and revised books with cousins. My neighbors were even invited me to join their good fun to play around. To party, how to play on matches etc. It was good experiences.

Most of my childhood life involved in the Hearing family and friends surroundings.

I would have had awesome experiences where I could feel the real fun with my family who love karaoke in the house or clubhouse, my grandparents would take me to visit their friends house for a chat, my parents would take me to join their friends' house for dinner party and I would join the other kids around to play and some trips went together as well. I was also teaching my cousins who are curious to learn simple ABCs in sign language. Some of them found its easy to communicate with me.

One of my cousins who is good at sign language especially in finger-spellings fast where I can understand and read especially in family issue talks and many topics. An another cousin of mine who can sign in good visual gestures I understand well. My grandparents learnt few simple sign language words to communicate with me too. My grandmother is also very good in making conversation with me in ways on how she would explains things or pictures using simple ABCs finger-spellings and also good visual gestures to make me to understand better.

I was so much fortunate to have such an open-minded family surrounding who would treat me no much difference in ways.

My cousins would share with me in many topics such as who are their friends, what they are doing and much more during my teen life. My cousins even brought me to meet their friends. I was like I was welcomed to their world. In other than that, my young aunt was more like a 'bestie' to me, she could bring me to watch movies with her and even went to workout and club to join her and friends. It was pretty cool to have good enjoyable and fun with her back then. We mostly use speaking and she would tries her best to sign with me.

Often I would find out that it would be sometimes left me blank when I meet my new cousins in law. šŸ‘€ They are accepting me who I am and they are so friendly and easy to get along well. I am much luckier to have them as my part of family.

My relatives are also getting along well with me, there is no difficulty in communication as there are good technology to be used such as email, whatsapp, FaceBook and video call. As I can read though is much easier for all of us. If I do not understand a thing or two, they will explain to me more in specific by providing or showing information from Google or pictures to see. Easy and fair, right?

They are supportive and awesome. I have been so grateful for having them people in my life. Without them, I wont be as I am today. This is how I am adapting well to my Hearing family.

I am proud of being Deaf.

We are humans after all.

God created us all special people.

We use His gifted to live our lives to the fullest.

Instagram Giveaway by GreenBugsFarm
and
discovery the journey of Hydroponics.

I was surprised to receive a direct message by Greenbugsfarm of their first Instagram giveaway for winning 2 fresh lettuce plants + 20% discount voucher.

And one more thing, I was also excited that my friend, Selina has also won the same giveaway contest. Cool! So I dropped her a message asking her whether she would like to collect to redeem the prize with me together. So we made it.

It was a rainy on last Thursday in the afternoon, Selina would picked me up and went to the Greenbugsfarm shop at SS2 in Petaling Jaya.

Once we have reached there, we have located the shop by the help of our Google/ Waze Map. The Greenbugsfarm is new opening shop so the location in the map is not so clear. Luckily, there is this Xing Fu Tang shop where we can notice the Greenbugsfarm billboard outside easily. šŸ˜

Our giveaway prizes šŸ’—

I am glad that Greenbugsfarm is offering us a worry-free eating and healthy where they do have their own INDOOR VERTICAL FARMING TECHNOLOGY.

The farm does look like hydroponics in a way but they use it in the indoor one. This indoor farm is a controlled ecosystem with the prefect amount of light, air and nutrients. An optimal set of conditions that enables their plants to express their natural tastiness to the fullest. By keeping the roots on, their plants keep all of their flavour and goodness. 100% free of chemical pesticides, so you have the freshest and healthiest produce.

They do sell butterhead lettuce, young kale and green coral lettuce.
You may order it in their store online here at https://www.greenbugs.my/shop

We were also told on how to keep our vegetable fresh and it lasts longer. Now we both know how to look after our salads fresh and good. Thanks for the tips from Greenbugsfarm.

It was interesting day for me and I was being able to know what is indoor vertical farming technology. Since I am into gardening where I do plant some veggies at my little balcony.

I immediately retrieve my lettuces from the paper bag and place inside the plastic containers so my family can eat fresh vegetable and stay healthy.

This is how I store this lettuce to keep in a container tight and place inside my fridge.
Next day, I would wet some water on the roots. So it will be good to be kept for last longer to look fresh and good. Wet the roots again if it feels dry. Remember always to keep the roots in good moist.

I made this good breakfast.
Chicken with fresh lettuce sandwich and a hot tea.
Really a good bite for my day.

This is my lunch box.
I cooked this lettuce with oyster sauce and others one is stir-fry chicken to place on top of lettuce.
My family loved eating this fresh lettuce as well.
The overall is amazing taste and fresh.

Thank you again Greenbugsfarm for making us all to eat your freshest and healthiest produce.

MY ONE YEAR OFF FROM BLOGGING

It has been a year off for me from doing my blogging time to give my fully attention to my son, Benjamin. I was hardly to spend a single time on laptop though I even wanted to.
WHY?

Because my Benjamin needs me all time to ensure he feels better. He has worried us parents and everybody on his health. I have been helplessly, clueless and no experience at all. I have been asking everyone around includes friends and family members to collect information on how I can help Benjamin.

Every parent wants a normal child I believe. I myself as a new parent and mom to my firstborn child do not much expected that I would go through many trials and works to understand what’s going on. So, I have given my full time mom to understand Benjamin’s health condition to get a better understanding in helping him.

Benjamin has been on breastfeed for 4 months only. My breast milk has become less and lessens, due to stressful and almost hung on. I was in much torn in between on all things myself.

Okay, to short form on his condition. He has been vomiting since when he was born. My confinement care staffs have been noticing me on his condition. I have had no idea, even my mother also. So we brought him to see Paediatrician, Dr. Jessica Tan (GMC Hosp Penang). I am told that Benjamin has acid reflux. So I Google online to find info on babies acid reflux. Trying to understand bit by bit, I still haven’t got it at all. Well, Ben was given relieve medicines, Motilium and Zantac. Baby takes medicines as the paediatrician said they are safe to be taken. Actually I did not want to do but I leave with no choice. So fine, I kept going to feed him on medicines and same time he has been vomited frequently especially on when he has done his milk drank or screaming/shouting/laughing. For formula milk, he took Frisco as the paediatrician’s recommended. Still he vomited after drinking the FM Frisco. I was so tired doing his chores by wiping off his body, changing clothes, cleaning up floor and even brought many towels when doing some shopping or travelling. I was almost give up and even asked myself why I could experience such as this for a first timer mom...

So the condition has been going on almost in everyday and I have been cautious on when his meal time like milk and food. My husband who was not on by my side, I was all alone to watch him myself. Quite hard however there is patience in me. Lucky. As the time goes by, my husband has worried much on Benjamin’s health has not been much improved. So he decided to take us home with him so we both could see the solution for our child. Okay. We even brought Benjamin to see another paediatrician, Dr. Yong (Columbia Asia Hosp Selangor) at our place. For our 2nd opinion. Well, things went smoothly when we visited Dr. Yong. After a good explanation, I even asked Dr.Yong for FM recommended. Enfragrow (Gentlease) one of FMs she mentioned. And Ben has eczema on skin. Headache addition to my brain. Sighs. So we tried, and slowly things have shown Ben’s condition is getting much better and good. Not only about the FM or eczema products, it is about Benjamin’s’ reactions to this way of taking food and what type to accept for his skin. Something like I say I have to understand a baby’s physiology where I often understand adults’ physiology. Then I understand this and that, monitoring what does Benjamin needs most.

I end up trying what it may works for him. And it works well. Eg. Let him rests for 3 hours by taking up 5oz. Normally for his age at about 16months, he supposed to be okay in taking more than 5oz (less hours). I have no idea at all first. It happened when I noticed he is okay taking that amount and duration hours. He drinks by sit and stand in the cot (when he is not laying down on bed). To my surprise, so i keep trying it fewer times. It works yes. And also trying to comfort his chest slowly while drinking up. As for his eczema skin, he has given cream medicines to sort out, on which matches him. The lotion cream has not quite good for him and brand QV Gentle Wash for hair and body suits him yes. So still there were eczema spots on his body part. I have been tirelessly to find more products for him to stop from eczema itching. I found Baby Balms by Ronella to try. The Baby Balms contain coconut oil where I research coconut oil does help for treating eczema. Benjamins eczema has not slightly improved that much though. Little thing I know he needs lotion as I do not want his skin to dry up. By naturally, I use pure coconut oil by RassRosh to apply on his whole body as same time I applied Baby Balm Rashes. By within fewer 2 weeks, his eczema all has been cured and gone so neatly without leaving any scars on. Thanked to Baby Balms by Ronella and Coconut Oil by RassRosh. They are amazing products. My boy now is free from eczema. I am so grateful. However, he has still watch out on his skin all time.

As for his food, he is quite far behind than among of the other kids for his age. Though he catches up on his food slowly and getting to process up but he is good in eating up well. Understandable, most babies or toddlers can eat rice at young stage but he was not. Even though people keep on asking me why. I couldn’t say much BUT what I know is not to push too hard on a child to go for every stage he should take. Eventually, I see the result he is able to eat all when he is ready.

Of course, every child is different. Always remember to nurture your child to your own best whenever you can be.

Learning everyday as a new mother is a great thing. Nobody can teach you how but only can give some tips to share with. Decision you have to do on your own, follow your own instinct.

Burrata in Tomato cage with Pesto Dressing

The first dish I was so much to fall in love with the beautiful big Burrata (one kind of cheese) in the grilled Tomato cage with Pesto Dressing. I found that Burrata is a fresh Italian cheese made from mozzeralla and cream. The outer shell is solid mozzarella, while the inside contains both mozzarella and cream is giving it an unusal, soft texture. The word Burrata means 'buttered' in Italian. A thick cream cheese.

Ravioli with Asparagus & Fresh Black Truffles

Beautiful soft creamy of Ravioli with Asparagus & Fresh Black Truffles has filled my night. I have always wanted to cook Ravioli but I heard it is not easy to make one perfect. I finally got to taste it for the first time happily. Ravioli are a type of dumpling composed of a filing sealed between two layers of thin pasta dough. They originated as a traditional food in Italian cuisine. I like the good cheese Parmesan topping on those Ravioli and yet the softy asparagus is too good to taste all in together.

Vension Fillet Marinated with Wildberry & Red Wine, served with Nouvelle Potatoes

I do not quite remember what Vension is. Vension is a deer meat. What a good dish to offer me tonight. I had 3 pieces of Vension on the plate and its sauce Wildberry and Red Wine have the strong aromatic. I am told that the deer meat is marinated in red wine for two overnights straight will help to give the dish a rich taste.

Classic Italian Tiramisu with Marsala Ice-Cream

Last dinner has treated me well where I enjoyed spooning the good Marsala Ice-Cream. It has the soft of texture creamy inside. Vanila taste alike. Tiramisu is my most favourite dessert ever. It is a popular coffee - flavored Italian dessert. It is made of lady's fingers dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar and mascarpone cheese, flavoured with cocoa.

Before we all have ended our night, there was a little surprise come to our way where we were thrilled to try Celo. It was so beautiful dessert.

Celo has the blue salt in color for the rim of glass for better taste. I won't dare to taste it simply. To know the taste what it feels like, I have sipped a little from the glass.

Oh no! The taste is so suck which I could not bear it at all. My tongue has decided not to drink it after that.

Celo is made from chocolate, chillies and wine. It is advisable to take Celo in one shot. It means you must drink in one gulp.

It was a great experience night for me to enjoy the good gastro food!

A photographic portrait of Chiune Sugihara.
CHIUNE SUGIHARA
The real man hero

Thanked KLIPS for having me and my man to review on the special movie at the GSC 1 Utama on the day.

Based on a true story.

Who is Sugihara?
He is Chiune Sugihara. He was born on 1st January 1900, a Japanese diplomat who served as Vice-Consul for the Empire of Japan in Lithuania.

Sugihara with his wife, Yukiko
During World War II, he helped 6,000 Jews to leave the country by issuing transit visas so that they could travel to Japanese territory, risking his career and his family's lives.

The Jews who escaped were refugees from German-occupied Western Poland or Russian-occupied Eastern Poland, as well as residents of Lithuania.

Sugihara had told the refugees to call him 'Sempo', the Sino-Japanese reading of the characters in his given name, discovering it was much easier for Western people to pronounce.

1940 issued visa by consul Sugihara in Lithuania, showing a journey taken thrrough the Soviet Union, Tsuruga and Curacao
 The Jews people
He has wrote for many hundred thousand of people until he has left for Romania from Lithuania.

Before his departed, he said "Please forgive me. I cannot write anymore. I wish you the best."
When he bowed deeply to the people before him, someone exclaimed, "Sugihara, We'll never forget you. I'll surely see you again!"

The refugees has arrived to Japan, they all were so glad to be free from The Holocaust. They sung a song that touched my heart cry.

Later on, one of the refugees has finally met him in person after so many years. It was a happy thing for Sugihara.

His word.
Do you want to know about my motivation, don't you?
It is the kind of sentiments anyone would have when he actually sees refugees face to face, begging with tears in their eyes. He just cannot help but sympathize with them. Among the refugees were the elderly and women. They were so desperate that they went so far to kiss my shoes. Yes, I actually witnessed such scenes with my own eyes. Also, I felt at the time, that the Japanese government did not have any uniform opinion in Tokyo. Some Japanese military leaders were just scared because of the pressure from the Nazis; while other officials in the Home Ministry were simply ambivalent.

People in Tokyo were not united. I felt it silly to deal with them. So I made up my mind not to wait for their reply. I knew that somebody would surely complain about me in the future. But, I myself thought this would be the right thing to do. There is nothing wrong in saving many people's lives...The spirit of humanity, philanthropy..neighborly friendship.. with this spirit, I ventured to do what I did, confronting this most difficult situation--and because of this reason, I went ahead with redoubled courage.

He has had died on 31st July 1986.

I was so overwhelmed on his action. He has a big heart. It is a good story that we should learn from him. And it is so interesting to know the history we do not live in the world war II.

Around 40,000 descendants of the Jewish refugees are alive today because of his actions.
In 1985, Israel named him to the Righteous Among the Nations for his actions, the only Japanese national to be so honored.
